Advantages at a glance
Type 1 + Type 2 combined
One device for lightning current discharge and surge protection - saves space and reduces wiring effort.
Pluggable protection elements
Three separately exchangeable protection plugs in the 3-pole base element - module replacement without tools in seconds.
Temperature monitored
Each protection plug is thermally monitored - prevents overheating and ensures a long service life.
Optical status indicator
Color indicator on each plug directly shows status - defective elements immediately detected and replaced.
DIN rail mounting
Standard DIN 35 mm top-hat rail - fits into any common PV distribution box, installed in minutes.
Y-configuration
Protects (L+)-(L-), (L+)-PE, and (L-)-PE simultaneously - best possible protection for isolated and grounded DC systems.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Type 1/2 surge arrester?
A combined lightning current and surge arrester. Type 1 discharges direct lightning currents (10/350 μs impulse waveform), Type 2 protects against indirect overvoltages from the grid (8/20 μs). Having both in one housing saves space and reduces wiring in the distribution box.
Where is the VAL-SPP installed?
In the DC distribution box of the PV system — between the module array and the inverter, as close as possible to the feed-in point of the DC cables. For systems with external lightning protection, a Type 1 SPD must be used — this VAL-SPP meets both requirements (Type 1 + Type 2) in one device.
Which PV systems is it suitable for?
For 2-pole isolated and grounded PV DC systems up to 1000 V DC. Suitable for residential, commercial, and open-field systems. For higher system voltages (1500 V DC), you need the correspondingly higher specified variant of the VAL-SPP series.
Does the device require maintenance?
Yes, but minimal. The optical status indicator shows at all times whether a protection plug is defective. If a red indicator appears, only the affected plug is pulled and replaced with a spare protection plug (item 1466781) — the system remains in operation, no tools required.
