Firefighter switches are used for the quick and safe disconnection of photovoltaic systems in case of fire or maintenance by de-energizing the DC string cables directly at the module array. Typical products include DC disconnectors for one or more strings, designed for system voltages up to 1000 V or 1500 V DC and string currents in the range of 15 to 40 A, with multi-pole disconnection and protection classes up to IP66 for outdoor installation. Many devices offer automatic shutdown in case of overheating as well as remote triggering via an emergency stop button, thus increasing personal and emergency personnel protection in accordance with the requirements for safe PV installations.
